cmc's blog

hahahahahaha

This was entertaining enough that I had to post a link for it.

In case you wondered how Jobs really makes the keynotes go..

from The Joy of Tech site... enjoy!

One score and fourteen years ago...

... I found my way into this life (more like it found me). I never really had any clue what my life would be like at 34, and here it is. At least I don't really feel like an old fart yet (even though the IMSA kids I spend my time with make me feel like one sometimes).

Things I wanted to do today, in no particular order:

  • hug my daughter (done, mutliple times)
  • hug my wife (also done, multiple times)
  • see some friends (done, for sure: even got a hug from the Ladies' Man)
  • shop for some hardware (new toys from Fry's, yay)
  • open some presents (yay penguin pj pants... they're comfy)
  • do a good deed (done: touchpad velcro backing doohickeys (3 of 'em) successfully duct-taped back together with the good stuff)
  • talk to the family (parents, in-laws, swimmers, and virtual family via email, phone, IM, you name it)
  • talk to some old friends (talked to a few, have some more to try to reach still... not enough hours in the day)
  • Other than that, this has been an interesting birthday. I'm thankful to my family for giving me a little freedom to do what I wanted to, and will be much more prepared to return to reality tomorrow.

    Back to watching 24...

Wonder what the Grouchy Grammarian would do to this guy...

amusing site of the day...

http://www.grouchygrammarian.com/

This is just so right.

you just never know...

You never know when it's gonna be your time... God says, "it's time," and you're gone... even if you're 35, a promising young coach, an Olympic medalist, father of two, devoted husband, trusted colleague... it doesn't matter.

Kids, give your dads a hug, and tell 'em you love 'em.

Swimmers, it doesn't matter if you love 'em or hate 'em, don't forget that your coaches are people too, and that they're subject to the same rules stated above.

Everybody, don't forget that life is precious. Enjoy what you have, and make sure to live life to the fullest every day you're here, 'cause tomorrow might be your time, too.

... in memory of Eric Namesnik, Club Wolverine (1970-2006)...

It is coming in February.

The MacBook Pro... an Intel-based mac portable.

um... not sure what else to say.

I want it...

the 12th day of Christmas...

We usually leave our Christmas tree up until after January 6 (the 12th day of Christmas... the Feast of the Epiphany for you Catholics out there). Anyway, Carrie left the tree plugged in last night before she went to bed, so when I came up, it looked so cool that I wanted to show her... so I dragged her out of bed and we went downstairs and looked. It was way cool... see?

OK, so the flash makes the room look lit up... but the tree's pretty in the dark, I promise. Carrie even took a picture without the flash:

I don't like that picture as much, because you can't see the ornaments as well... but it does show off how pretty the lights are. Notice that our tree has its own "mini-me" right next to it as well.

Waiting for Tuesday...

Any self-respecting Mac geek knows that nobody is buying any new hardware this weekend, and for good reason... Macworld San Francisco is this coming week, and the rumor sites are all buzzing with the odds of Apple coming in ahead of schedule with the new Intel-based Macs.

Considering that my Powerbook (ok, the State's Powerbook, but that's a minor detail) is two years old now, I'm jonesing for what the rags are calling the iBook thin or iBook nano... a 13" widescreen Mac notebook would just plain kick butt.

So, Steve, if you're reading this... please make sure you have some ready to ship, because I and probably a million other folks out there are ready to play with one.

Happy New Year!

I'd like to wish everyone a happy and healthy 2006. 2005 will be a tough act to follow, with a number of acomplishments in the family, not in any particular order:

  • Chris got through another year at IMSA in one piece
  • Meggie came into the world... and that's a story in itself
  • Carrie decided to stay at home with Meggie
  • Chris finished his high school coaching career in style with a wonderful season and a great group of girls
  • Chris was elected Vice Chair of the newly-renamed Illinois Masters Swimming Association, and also took over technical direction duties with the organization (now he just needs to find more time to work on their website)

Drupal Gallery Module, anyone?

If anyone knows better than I do how to hack the Drupal gallery module (or Gallery's themes) to make the fonts (much less the whole embedding of the gallery) not look like doggie yum-yums, please email me.
